Scholarship contest offered

The Veterans of Foreign Wars’ Voice of Democracy scholarship contest is underway.

The VFW gives out more than $2 million in college scholarships every year to high school students. Those who wish to apply should write and record a 3 to 5 minute audio essay on this year’s patriotic theme, “Is this the country the Founders envisioned.”

The top national prize is a $30,000 scholarship and first-place state winners receive a trip to Washington, DC, COVID-19 permitting. The student entry deadline is Oct. 31.
