Peterson joins Encore! Mt. Morris as summer artist

Megan Peterson is Encore! Mt. Morris’ Summer 2020 Artist-in-Residence.

Peterson has a bachelor’s degree in painting and writing from St. Ambrose University and is interested in pursuing museum work and computer art.

She is from Rockford and has experience leading summer craft programs, teaching paint parties, helping at museum-hosted art camps, and working on a city mural.

“She loves making art with lots of people,” said Encore!’s Jeff Bold. “Megan and Encore! are planning ways to keep making art fun this summer. She can’t wait to meet you all, whether it’s through video or in person, you’ll be able to make beautiful art together AND stay safe and healthy!

“Megan is offering weekly art projects via Facebook LIVE for students first grade through high school.  These started June 8, and will continue through Aug. 7, they are available live or after the event,” Bold said.

Encore! (following federal, state, and local guide lines, and safety protocols) will be offering additional safe social distance events this summer including Plein-air sessions, fire hydrant painting, and more.

There are no gallery shows in June or July; the student gallery show scheduled for June was cancelled.

The July shows; ‘Home is Where the Heart Is’ and ‘Small Time, Two Bit Show’ have been moved to August.

“PorchFest has moved to Aug. 8, The US National Straw Sculpting Competition is scheduled for Aug. 7-23, with modified viewing and online voting. Straw-Fest scheduled for Aug. 22 is questionable, but hopeful with modifications. Events may be subject to change,” Bold said/
