Nash Rec Center reopening up in the air

‘Once IDPH provides direction, final decisions can be made’

The Oregon Park District made a statement this week saying it is unsure when Nash Recreation Center will reopen during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Public pools and recreation facility operations are not included as part of phase three of the Restore Illinois Plan released by Gov. Pritzker.

There has been no direction or guidelines from the Illinois Department of Public Health concerning safe operation of these facilities.

Without input from IDPH, the health, safety and operational challenges related to the operation of the facility under social distancing protocols are being reviewed and evaluated by the park district.

“Once IDPH provides direction, final decisions can be made and communicated to the public,” Executive Director Erin Folk wrote. “This is disappointing for everyone, but we will continue to adhere to the direction provided by Gov. Pritzker and IDPH. We appreciate your patience and understanding.”

The OPD recreation staff has been working to release a virtual activity guide for outdoor activities beginning the week of June 8.

Residents are asked to send comments or questions to and staff will reach out directly to discuss concerns.
