Coroner IDs missing fisherman recovered near Dixon dam

DIXON – The body of missing fisherman James Swift, 64, was recovered from the Rock River near the Dixon dam Friday morning.

Swift, of Forreston, was one of two Ogle County boaters missing since Nov. 20 after their boat capsized near the Oregon dam.

Lee County Coroner Jesse Partington confirmed Swift’s identity by his tattoos, he said. An autopsy is scheduled for Monday at the Ogle County coroner’s office.

Kent Dearborn Jr., 33, of Polo, still is missing.

A worker at the power plant at the dam spotted the body and reported it and first responders were dispatched shortly before 10 a.m. to 201 E. River Road, Dixon City Fire Department said.

Ogle County officials also were on scene as Dixon Rural and Dixon City Fire Department crews pulled Swift’s body from the river around 10:30 a.m. and brought it to the ramp off Assembly Place, where it then was taken to the Ogle coroner’s office.
