This year’s Autumn on Parade Guest of Honor is certainly no stranger to the festival and all its activities.
Longtime AOP President and volunteer Debbie Dickson will be honored during the Harvest Time Parade, an event she announced and narrated for many years, on Sunday, Oct. 6.
Dickson, 61, served on the Autumn on Parade Committee for 20 years, the last 10 of those as its president.
She also served as director of the Oregon Chamber of Commerce for almost seven years and was a Chamber Ambassador before that.
“We chose Debbie because of her many years of service to Autumn on Parade and with the Oregon Chamber of Commerce. We appreciate her dedicated support of AOP for so many years,” said AOP Committee President Marseyne Snow. “She does a great many things for the City of Oregon.”
Dickson said she was surprised by the recognition.
“This completed blind-sided me,” she said. “It is sincerely an honor to be asked.”
She said she considers it a privilege to serve the community she has called home since 1979.
“I believe very strongly in the community of Oregon,” she said. “ We all have the responsibility to help out in every way we can. Public service is just a community being family.”
