Dixon man dies after head-on crash near Byron

A Dixon man died after a head-on crash on April 26 on Illinois 2 south of Byron.

Jon R. Stanley, 57, died Sunday at OSF St. Anthony Medical Center, Rockford, from the injuries he suffered two days earlier when the pick-up truck he was driving collided with another pick-up truck in the 7,000 block of North Illinois 2 near the intersection with Illinois 72.

According to a press release from Ogle County Sheriff Brian VanVickle, a truck driven by Stanley was northbound when it crossed over the center line into the path of a southbound truck driven by Howard C. Barh, 64, of Galena.

Barh drove onto the shoulder in an attempt to avoid the Stanley’s truck, but the two vehicles collided and slid into the northbound lane where they came to rest. The crash occurred at 2:52 p.m.

Stanley was extricated from his truck by Byron firefighters and airlifted by Lifeline helicopter to the hospital.

Barh was transported by Oregon ambulance to Swedish American Hospital, Rockford, with minor injuries.

The accident remains under investigation.
