Forreston athletes sign letters of intent

Several seniors at Forreston High School signed letters of intent April 25 to participate in sports at colleges and universities.

Bryan Edler, the son of Bryan and Michele Edler, signed a letter of intent with Milwaukee School of Engineering, Milwaukee, Wisconsin. He will be joining the golf team.  

As a Forreston Cardinal, Edler was a four-year varsity golfer. He advanced to Sectionals as an individual in 2014 and 2015.  

He earned MVP honors in 2014, 2015, and 2016 along with All-Conference 2nd team in 2014 and All-Conference (unanimous) 1st team in 2015 and 2016.  

Alexia Gruhn, the daughter of Robert and Jennifer Gruhn, signed a letter of intent with Loras College, Dubuque, Iowa. She will be joining the cheer squad.  

Gruhn has been a football and basketball cheerleader for four years at Forreston High School.  

She has won the spirit award for football and basketball cheer the last two years.

Caleb Poffenberger, the son of Erick and Sarah Poffenberger, signed a letter of intent with Aurora University, Aurora. He will be joining the baseball team.  

As a Forreston Cardinal, Poffenberger played baseball all four years of high school and was a three year varsity player.  

He received 2nd Team All-Conference honors in 2015 and 2016.

Emma Nelson, the daughter of Shawn and Jennifer Nelson, signed a letter of intent with Elmhurst College, Elmhurst. She will be joining the basketball team.  

As a Forreston Cardinal, Nelson was a four year basketball player. She suffered a season-ending ACL injury during this past season, but is working very hard at rehabilitation and looking forward to playing basketball at Elmhurst.  

She earned the Cardinal Award and Most Improved Award in 2016-2017 and also earned 2nd Team All-Conference honors in 2016.  

Peyton Sorn, the daughter of Jeff Sorn and Jill DeVries, signed a letter of intent to play volleyball at Highland Community College, Freeport. 

She played four years of volleyball at Forreston High School.
