Marvin S. Olson Jr.

Marvin “Marv” S. Olson Jr., 80, of Mt. Morris, died on Saturday, Sept. 14, 2019 at Serenity Hospice & Home, Oregon, surrounded by his family. 

He was born on Jan. 18, 1939 in Oregon, the son of Marvin S. and Clarice (Drummond) Olson Sr. 

Marv married Carolyn Beck on April 14, 1973 in Mt. Morris. He served in the US Army. He worked at E.D. Etnyre for 46 years, retiring in 2001.

Marv was the most wonderful husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and family man. 

He was a Moose member since 1973, serving in many functions and he held many positions in the Moose. 

He was an avid Bears and Cubs fan, and he was an armchair coach during games. 

Marv loved to golf, but most of all he was a very loyal friend and he always had a smile for you. 

After his retirement Marv and Carolyn moved to Texas for nine years, until he wanted to spend as much time with his family as he possibly could spend, returning to Illinois in 2017.

Marv is survived by his wife, Carolyn Olson, Mt. Morris; daughters, Connie (Michael) Miller, Mt. Morris, Kimberly (Tim) Carr, Trumbull, Connecticut, Linda (Chadd) Eisele, Byron, Kristine (Chris) Halverson, Oregon, Donna (Paul) Cavanaugh, Polo, Laurie (Dan Munroe) Mon, Dixon; 17 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; sisters, Carol Kump, and Barbara (Paul) Hills; brother, Elmer (Joanne) Olson; and several nieces and nephews.

Marv was preceded in death by his parents and brother, LeRoy Olson.

Memorial visitation will be held on Wednesday, Sept. 18 from 3 to 5 p.m. at Finch Funeral Home, 405 E. Hitt St., Mt. Morris. 

A Moose service will follow the visitation at the funeral home. 

A celebration with family and friends will be held at the Mt. Morris Moose Lodge following the Moose service, so if friends are unable to make the visitation, the family will be available at the Moose.

Memorials have been established to Serenity Hospice & Home and Mt. Morris Moose Lodge 1551.
