After an eight-month search, the Ogle County Board hired a Stephenson County official as supervisor of assessments Tuesday evening.
The board met in closed session for 25 minutes before unanimously appointing Ronald A. Kane, 61, Freeport, to the post, which has been vacant since Jim Harrison retired last Dec. 31.
Board chairman Kim Gouker said Kane, who is currently the supervisor of assessments in Stephenson County, is well-qualified.
“I think he will do a great job for us,” he said. “He’s been a supervisor of assessments in three counties.”
Kane, who grew up on a farm in the Forreston area and attended Forreston High School, has also served supervisor of assessments in JoDaviess and Carroll Counties. He was assessment data collector in Monroe, Wisconsin, and a deputy assessor in Rockford Township in Winnebago County and for the Harris County Appraisal District in Houston, Texas.
He has also served as Stephenson County’s geographical information system coordinator and Enterprise Zone administrator.
Kane will begin his new job on Oct. 1. He will be paid an annual salary of $81,977.
Harrison’s retirement came after serving 31 years as supervisor of assessments.
Chief deputy assessor Carol Magnuson has been serving as interim supervisor of assessments since Jan. 1.
