Betty J. (Svendsen) Handschuh, 87, of Mt. Morris, died peacefully on Monday, March 18, 2019 at Pinecrest Terrace in Mt. Morris.
She was born on Oct. 9, 1931, in Milladore, Wisconsin, the daughter of late Carl and Elvina Svendsen. She was the youngest of three siblings.
She graduated from Lakeview High School, Chicago, in 1949.
She married Edward W. Handschuh on June 20, 1963.
Her professional career centered mostly around the insurance industry focusing data processing and later in sales. Companies she worked for Combined Insurance, Hooper Holmes, Addressograph Multigraph and Zurich Insurance.
She continued working until the age of 85.
She was an avid traveler, an aficionada of old movies, and prolific crocheter. Each of her sweaters were works of art and truly one of a kind.
Her favorite candy bar was Almond Joy and she loved eating Chinese food.
She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Edward S. and Kelly Handschuh of Mt. Morris; and grandchildren, Kelsey and Holly Handschuh of Mt. Morris; and long-time friend Pat Parzygnat, of Menifee, California.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Edward; and her two siblings, Leon Svendsen and Carol Giles.
A memorial service will be held on Sunday, April 14 at 2 p.m. at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church in Mt. Morris.
In lieu of flowers a memorial has been established to Pinecrest Community.
