Oregon Elementary School art teacher Jordan DeWilde has been named Illinois Elementary Art Educator of the Year.
The award will be presented by Illinois Art Education Association, a professional organization for art educators, individuals, and groups who wish to support art education in Illinois, at its Conference Gala on Nov. 9.
“I am truly honored to be recognized as Elementary Art Educator of the Year,” DeWilde said. “I consider myself very lucky to have the opportunity to teach students about art and help them use those skills to creatively express themselves.”
DeWilde has taught at Oregon Elementary School for six years.
In addition to teaching, he shares his curriculum ideas and teaching philosophy on social media with art educators from all over the world.
DeWilde recently caught the attention of NBC Universal’s learning and entertainment streaming platform, allowing him to film “Jump into Drawing!,” an online class to teach children about basic drawing skills while building confidence and encouraging creative expression.
“Mr. DeWilde does a great job of incorporating art into our students’ lives through their projects, displays, extra clubs and social media,” Oregon Elementary School Principal, Kelli Virgil said. “OES is extremely lucky to have a teacher who is not only extremely committed to his content but also the students.”
