New pastor named for St. James and Freedom Lutheran churches

Installation Service is July 15

Freedom Lutheran Church, Oregon, in conjunction with St. James Lutheran Church, rural Forreston, welcomes and congratulates its new pastor, Pastor Karyn Kost.

Kost was recently ordained into the Northern Illinois Synod of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America.

Kost was born in Indianapolis, Indiana, and baptized at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church, Whitestown, Indiana.

She has a bachelor of science degree in Chemical Engineering from Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology, Terre Haute, Indiana.

Prior to seminary, she worked as a Process Engineering Supervisor for Bemis, Inc.

She has her master of divinity degree from Trinity Lutheran Seminary, Columbus, Ohio.

She completed her internship at Trinity Lutheran Church in Mr. Morris, under the supervision of the Rev. Josh Ehrler.

In addition to her experience as a chemical engineer she served as the Activities and Waterfront Director at an Indiana Lutheran Camp as well as Chaplain at the Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center.

Freedom and St. James Lutheran Churches have agreed to welcome Kost into their congregations.

An installation service will be held at St. James Lutheran Church, 6024 N. Columbine Rd. Forreston, on Sunday, July 15 at 3 p.m. A reception will follow the service.

Freedom’s regular 5:45 p.m. service and St. James regular 9:30 a.m. service will be canceled on July 15 in respect for the installation service.
