The 45th annual German Valley Days festival will get underway on Friday, June 8 with the theme, “Laugh Out Loud”.
Activities will take place in the Ben Miller Park and along Church Street.
The Silver Creek SWIFT will serve a celebration supper beginning at 5 p.m. Friday.
Open coloring for all ages will take place at the information booth from 5 to 9 p.m. on Friday and 9 to 10 a.m. on Saturday.
An Illinois Bicentennial Flag Raising will be held at 6 p.m. with Boy Scout Troop 781 participating.
A Summer Rec 7 & 8 Year Olds ball game will begin at 6 p.m.
A Little Miss & Mister Pageant, the presentation of the German Valley Area’s Most Valuable Person Award and the announcement of “Bucket of Junk” competition winners will begin at 6:15 p.m.
At 7 p.m., the “Match the Jury” Game Show will begin onstage.
Saturday’s activities will begin with a pancake breakfast served by the Silver Creek ACTS Ministries from 6:30 to 10 a.m. at the German Valley fire station.
The fire station will also be the location for free FHN blood pressure, cholesterol and glucose screenings. Fasting for eight hours prior to glucose testing is recommended.
At 8 a.m. the Run the Valley 5K & Fun Run will begin at the Ben Miller Park.
At 8:30 p.m., registration for the Antique Tractor Show, sponsored by the German Valley Golden Eagles 4-H Club, will begin at 310 Church Street. Tractor games are scheduled at 3 p.m.
Registration will begin at 9 a.m. for the German Valley Lions Car Show to take place at 525 Church Street. Car Show Awards will be presented at 2:30 p.m.
At 9:30 a.m., a pig scramble for children age 3 through 10 will take place behind the historical museum, 805 Church Street. Pre-register by calling 815 -362-3671.
A Euchre Tournament will begin at 10 am. at the fire station.
A Kiddie Tractor Pull for ages 3 through 10, will start at 10:30 a.m. on the ball diamond infield and a Petting Zoo, provided by Kriss Mulder will open.
Also at 10:30 a.m., entries in the “Laugh Out Loud” coloring contest, sponsored by the New Hope Veterinary Clinic, will be judged in the park shelter and Prize Bingo will begin.
At 11 a.m. an “Around the World (in GV) Basketball Shooting contest will begin on the park basketball court.
The German Valley Historical Museum will be open from noon to 6 p.m.
The German Valley Days parade will begin with a fly over by Albertus Airport Pilots at 1:30 p.m.
A Pie Eating contest, sponsored by Vicki’s Baked Goods and More, is set for 2:30 p.m. in the park shelter and the “Spotted Dog Three Peace Rock & Roll Show” will be onstage.
Activities at 3 p.m. will include a Bags Tournament, sponsored by Duane Collman, Monsanto Seeds dealer, and stilt walking by Jason Kollum.
Sandy’s Face Painting & Balloons will be located in the park shelter from 3 to 5 p.m.
The German Valley Fire Department will serve a pork chop dinner at the fire station from 3:30 to 7:30 p.m. (shuttle service provided to and from the park).
“Grass Attack” will perform onstage from 5:30 to 7 p.m.
Little Miss & Mister participants will perform their dance number onstage at 6:15 p.m.
The evening’s featured entertainment will be by comedian David Ferrell.
The German Valley Days Raffle Drawing will follow at 9 p.m.
A fireworks display in the Lake Baalton area will conclude the day’s activities. It is sponsored by the German Valley Lions Booster Committee, the Village of German Valley and Donna Smith. Rain date is July 10.
On Sunday there will be a “Festival of Praise” worship service at 10 a.m. in the Ben Miller Park. Rain location is Grace Valley Church.
Jumping Beans Inflatables, Games by Oak Ridge Ranch Amusements, Inc., Pony Rides by the Huenefelds, the Summer Rec Dunk Tank and Panning for Gold will be available Friday and Saturday, along with food concessions and various booths.
Due to a scheduling error, the festival committee will not be able to provide laser tag as planned. It has been re-scheduled it for next year.
