Rockford man charged in stabbing

A Rockford man has been charged in the June 1 stabbing of a Davis Junction woman.

Leonard Smith, 44, was arrested on charges of aggravated battery and aggravated domestic battery. Additional charges are pending.

He was taken into custody by Ogle County Sheriff’s Police at Rolling Meadow Trailer Park, 4989 N. Ill. 251, Davis Junction, the scene of the incident, and is being held in the Ogle County Jail in lieu of $100,000 bond.

Sheriff Brian VanVickle said deputies went to the scene at 1:49 a.m. in response to a report of a woman screaming.

Deputies found a 37-year-old woman, who had been stabbed multiple times, lying in the roadway.

The victim was transported to Swedish American Hospital, Rockford, and later flown to a Madison, Wisconsin, hospital were she was still a patient on Monday.
