Finch rolls past 1,000 kills at Byron

Hawks win Stillman Tournament

Oregon High School senior Gylian Finch reached a milestone last week when she recorded her 1,000 kill in her four years as a varsity volleyball player.

Finch reached her 1,000th kill in a Big Northern Conference game at Byron on Oct. 17.

She went over the 1,000-kill mark as the Oregon volleyball team rolled to a 25-20, 25-11 road win against Byron.

Finch put down 15 kills for the Hawks (24-4-1, 9-0 Big Northern), Bailey Nelson had nine kills, and Jasmine Herbst dished 26 assists.

Finch continued her run in a Oct. 19 match at Genoa Kingston where she had 15 kills, 17 digs and two blocks to kead Oregon to a 25-20, 18-25, 25-21 victory.

Also for Oregon: Jasmine Herbst had 18 assists, five digs, and three kills;​ Aleah Wight had 18 digs, two aces; and Bailey Nelson recordred eight kills, four digs, and two blocks.

Also against GK, the freshman team won 25-19, 12-25, 25-11 while the sophomores lost.

The Hawks won the Stillman Tournament going 5-0 on Oct. 21, improving their record to 30-4-1 on the season and 10-0 in the Big Northern Conference.

At the Stillman tournament, Oregon beat Aquin 20-10, 20-22, 15-7; Warren 20-11, 20-12; Forreston 20-10, 20-18; Lutheran 20-17, 17-20, 15-10; and Lena Winslow 25-18, 22-25, 25-17.

Finch recorded 12 aces, 49 kills, 6 blocks, and 46 digs while Nelson had 39 kills, 18 blocks, and 26 digs.

Herbst had 92 assists and 24 digs followed by Wight with 63 digs; Heather Braden 11 kills; Makenna Mongan 18 blocks; and McKenna Sadler 28 digs.
