With the IHSA’s announcement of upcoming enrollment figures, based upon September 2016 figures, it’s worth noting that the local area had seen a precipitous drop in students over a 50-year period.

Compared with 1966, all 17 school districts in the Sauk Valley Media/Ogle County Newspapers’ coverage area have seen declines, ranging from 32 to 63 percent.

Collectively, there were 9,908 high school students in 1966, compared to 5,739 in 2016.
