Oregon Park District, KSB partner to get youth moving

The Oregon Park District and KSB Wellness are partnering together to offer Operation Move, a free program with an emphasis on increasing physical activity in youth.

This free program will run this summer from June 1 through Aug. 2.

Pre-registration is required by May 30. Registration materials are available at Nash Recreation Center in Oregon.

The program is free to all participants. Participants who register will receive a log book and pedometer if needed. The program is open to anyone 18 years and younger.

Registered participants will record all miles (walk, run, bike or play) at Fairground Park or Oregon Park West.

Participants are encouraged to participate in daily physical activity at these parks with an adult and become eligible for prizes on a monthly basis and upon reaching set benchmarks.

Benchmarks to reach prizes are 75 miles, 100 miles and 125 miles. Anyone who exceeds 125 miles will be entered into a random drawing for an annual family membership.

Log cards are due July 3 and Aug. 2, but can be turned in earlier if benchmarks have been reached.

The CDC recommends children participate in at least 60 minutes of physical activity each day. The mission of Operation Move is to promote the need for youth to increase their daily physical activity while participating with an adult.

Fairground Park offers new amenities that include a 1/2 mile walking path, new playground and three play pods featuring playground equipment for children and exercise equipment for adults.

Park West features two playgrounds, splash pad and a 2.2 miles of paved trails and boardwalk for kids to explore and get active.

Sign up by May 30 to join the Oregon Park District and KSB Wellness to get moving!
