Eagle’s Nest Art Group will host an oil painting demonstration on Saturday, May 20 at its second floor studio at Conover Square, 201 N. Third Street, Oregon. The program will begin at 10 a.m.

Former art teacher Shirley Battin will demonstrate her impressionistic style, starting with a quick sketch on canvas followed by a thin undercoat of paint to lay in the lights, darks and main forms of her subject.

She covers every inch of the canvas in this second step. Finally, she will finish by applying thick paint using quick brush strokes.

In addition, Battin will talk about the pallet, paint, brushes and solvents she uses.

She stands at an easel to paint and believes that it is easier to get into the impressionistic frame of mind if you are free to move around while painting.

Several of Battin’s other works will be on display at the studio.

After graduating from Oregon High School, Battin studied art at Northern Illinois University, DeKalb, and then taught art in Schaumburg for 30 years.

She is a member of Oil Painters of America, American Impressionists Society, and Eagle’s Nest Art Group.

This is a unique opportunity to see an accomplished artist create an impressionistic painting from start to finish.

No fee will be charged for this program. Everyone is invited.
