Oregon High School’s band and choir brought home a third place trophy at the IHSA’s Organizational Contest in Forreston on April 22,
Students brought home third place in the Class B Music Sweepstakes with a total of 765 points.
The six ensembles competing consisted of two bands and four choirs: Concert Band, Concert Choir, Jazz Band, Jazz Choir, Treble Choir, and Bass Choir.
Each group earned Superior (Division 1) ratings from each judge at contest.
Additionally, these point totals were some of the highest OHS has ever achieved. Two perfect scores were awarded to the Concert Choir and one perfect score was given to the Jazz Choir.
The win was a huge surprise to the music department. They scored 465 points at Solo and Ensemble contest, putting them in fourth place.
They then earned the maximum 300 points possible at organizational contest.
“It is unusual for a school’s ranking to increase after solo and ensemble contest since there’s a cap on the number of points that can be earned,” said OHS choir director Katie Sheridan.
“We had done the best we could do and we were proud to be fourth. The fact that our students performed so well without the expectation of a trophy or high honor makes us incredibly proud.”
“It was very rewarding to see the kids so pumped on Monday when they heard the news,” said OHS Band Director Andy Eckardt.
Don’t miss your opportunity to hear these award-winning student musicians as they host several end-of-the-year concerts.
