Lance E. Reed, 54, Bakersfield, Calif., died suddenly in his home on Thursday, May 22, 2014.
Lance grew up in Oregon and graduated from Oregon High School in 1977 as class valedictorian.
He went to Northwestern University, Evanston, where he studied pre-law and computer science. He graduated summa cum laude.
He also attended Stanford Law School.
Lance then worked as an oil man, first working on an oil rig, then in the office, and finally moving into upper management in the AERA Energy Company, Bakersfield, Calif.
There he worked as a chief corporate architect and then became vice-president.
Lance married Jeanette Mott in 1988, and they later divorced. They had two sons together, Chase Eliot Reed and Brandon Bishop Reed.
Lance's sons were the most important people in his life.
Lance loved the outdoors, fishing, shooting sports, traveling, and especially his pets, Dakota, a wonderful border collie, and Loki, an American Eskimo dog.
He is survived by his sons, Chase and Brandon; a brother, Erik Reed, Oregon; and many friends too numerous to list.
He was predeceased by his mother, Edna Reed; and his aunt, Hester Reed.
Cremation rites were completed by the Bakersfield Funeral Home.
Visitation will be held on Friday, Aug. 1 from 6 to 7 p.m. at Finch Funeral Home, Mt. Morris.
Interment will be at Daysville Cemetery immediately following the visitation.
Memorials to any pet welfare organization or to the American Heart Association will be accepted in lieu of flowers.
