Parents in the Oregon School District have another option for preschool.
The Oregon School District is forming Foundations 4 Success.
“We know that kids who get early exposure to education do better in school,” said superintendent Tom Mahoney. “This program is for students who may not qualify for other preschools.”
This new preschool program is open to any child who will be four-years-old on or before Sept. 1 and who does not qualify for the existing Early Childhood preschool program.
Qualifications for the Early Childhood program ins based on risk factors, but the new Foundations 4 Success preschool program is open to all four-year old children.
“The intent is to share with all the preschools our experiences,” said Mahoney. “Ensuring all students have a quality education is our intent.”
Students with identified risk factors should continue to be enrolled in the Early Childhood program.
Getting to school will be easy for students enrolled in preschool.
Mahoney said the district has bus routes that will be used to pick-up the new preschoolers.
Classes will be held at the Oregon Elementary School with a 2.5 hour day.
There will be a 8:30 to 11 a.m. class or a 1:30 to 3 p.m. class that parents may choose to enroll their child in.
Classes will be held five days a week and will follow the regular school district calendar.
The curriculum is play-based to allow children to develop perseverance, curiosity, and questioning skills through activities and interaction.
The preschool is limited to 36 students in the classes.
Every child has the same opportunity to attend the new preschool.
“We would choose students randomly if more apply,” said Mahoney.
Parents with questions may contact Oregon Elementary School Principal Ann Tilton at 815-732-2911.
Registration may be completed online at www.ocusd.net/F4S.
The deadline to apply is July 18 and parents will be informed of enrollment status by July 28.
