Karen M. “NaNa” Martin, 74, Rockford, died Frida,y Jan. 3, 2014 in her home.
She was born Sept. 8, 1939 in Maywood, the daughter of Louis and Luella (Walter) Kaltenbach.
Karen moved with her family to the Ashton area and she graduated from Ashton High School.
Then she obtained her nursing degree from Swedish-American School of Nursing.
Karen worked as a registered nurse at Rochelle Community Hospital and KSB Hospital, Dixon.
She married Larry Martin on June 19, 1971 in Oregon.
She enjoyed knitting, crocheting, reading, gardening and spending time with “her boys” and all the family. Survivors include her husband, Larry; daughter, Diane Martin (Michael) Hielsberg, Davis Junction; step-daughter, Candace Walstad; step-son, Randy Martin; grandchildren, Garret Gibson, Joshua Hielsberg, Jessica Walstad, and Lindsey Martin; sister, Bonnie (Terry) Nichols, Ashton; and brother, John (Karla) Kaltenbach, Ashton.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her son, Brian Rhinehart.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, Jan. 11 at 11 a.m. at Farrell-Holland-Gale Funeral Home, 110 S. Seventh St., Oregon, with Pastor Michael Hoffman of the Oregon Church of God officiating.
Visitation will be at the funeral home on Friday, Jan. 10 from 5 to 7 p.m.
Burial in Ashton Cemetery will be at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the OSF Cancer Center in Rockford.
