Tressa L. Willstead-Sheely

Tressa L. Willstead-Sheely, 93, Polo, died Wednesday, Oct. 9, 2013 at 5:25 p.m. at her residence.

She was born on Jan. 20, 1920 in Smithfield to Fred and Vina (Dick) Orwig. 

She married Kenneth Willstead on Feb. 6, 1939 in Kahoka, Mo. He preceded her in death on Nov. 8, 1979.  She then married Raymond Sheely in September of 1980.  He preceded her in death in October of 2005.

She is survived by daughters,  Nelda (Ronald) Bergsten, Whitewater, Wis., Merla (Bill) Brooks, Marble Hill, Mo, Florence Wragg, Polo, and Paula (Gene) Schick, Warren; nine grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren; one great-great grandchild and one sister, Alice (Leroy) Riley, Canton.

She was preceded in death by her parents; both husbands; two sisters, Martha and Pauline; and two brothers, Charles and Richard.

She was educated in Cuba, Ill. schools and was a homemaker and farmer’s wife. 

She was a member of the Disciples of Christ Church, had served at Second Hand Rose, the Buffalo Grange, the Polo Senior Center, the Polo Historical Society, and the Ogle County Homemakers.  Tressa was a devoted mother to her children. 

She was gifted with the ability to do counted crosss-stitch, winning many first place ribbons at the State Grange. 

She also made more than 800 lap quilts for local nursing homes.

Private graveside services have been held at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, Dixon. 

A memorial service will be held on Sunday, Nov. 10 at 2 p.m. at Pine Creek Christian Church on Lowell Park Road with Rev Gregg Downs officiating.   A luncheon will immediately follow at the church. Chapel Hill Funeral Home, Dixon, is in charge of the arrangements.

Memorials may be directed to the Pine Creek Christian Church, the Polo Senior Center or the Polo Historical Society.
