A Chicago woman is dead and three other persons were injured in a semi versus car crash Sunday afternoon near Forreston.
Ogle County Sheriff Michael Harn said Tuesday that Mary Klasen, 66, was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash at the intersection of Ill. 72 and 26 four miles northwest of Forreston.
Deputy Coroner Jeanette Bennett said the autopsy showed that Klasen died from blunt force trauma to her head, neck, and chest.
Semi driver Robert Schultz, 41, Forreston, and two passengers in the car Klasen was driving were injured.
Harn said Klasen was driving east on Ill. 72 and stopped at the stop sign at the intersection with Ill. 26.
Klasen then turned north in front of the semi, which was southbound on Ill. 26, and the two vehicle collided, Harn said. The crash occurred at 2:09 p.m.
Klasen's front seat passenger, Elizabeth Cosgrove, 67, Clarendon Hills, was flown by React helicopter to Rockford Memorial Hospital where she was listed on fair condition on Tuesday.
The back seat passenger, Mary Anne Noven, 67, Yorkville, was flown by Lifeline helicopter to OSF St. Anthony Medical Center, Rockford, where she was also listed in fair condition on Tuesday.
Schultz was transported by Freeport Rural ambulance to FHN Memorial Hospital, Freeport, for treatment of minor injuries.
Harn said Ill. 26 was closed for two hours due to the crash. He said alcohol and illegal drugs were not factors in the crash.
Ogle County deputies were assisted at the scene by the Illinois State Police, Stephenson County Sheriff's Department, Shannon Police Department, Forreston Fire Department, and Shannon Fire Department.
The crash remains under investigation.
