Carol W. Thorngren

Carol W. (Mrs. Roger) Thorngren, 91, Mt. Morris, died Monday Aug.26, 2013 at Pinecrest Manor Nursing Home, Mt. Morris, just two months after she and her husband had celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary.

Carol was born Feb. 9, 1922 in Whiteside County near the village of Coleta, the daughter of Oscar Fay and Gertie Mae (Jacobs) Peugh.

Carol graduated from Milledgeville High School the Class of 1939; and she graduated from Northern Illinois University, DeKalb, in the Class of 1966 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Education.

Carol taught sixth grade language arts in Byron for three years before major surgery ended her teaching career.

From childhood, Carol was a member of Disciples United Church, and then was a member of Disciples United Methodist Church after the merger.

Carol participated in church programs, sang in the choir, taught Sunday School, and enjoyed adult Sunday School class, where she made many treasured friends.

Carol and Roger have four children, Kris Thorngren, Nashville, Tenn., Mark Thorngren, Camarillo, Calif., Philip Thorngren, Rockford, and Andria Burchett, Geneva. They also have nine grandchildren.

Carol was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Kenneth Peugh, Sterling, and sister, Kathleen Marshall, Mt. Morris.

Funeral services were held Aug. 30 at Disciples United Methodist Church, Mt. Morris, with Rev. Dwight Stewart officiating.

Burial was in Oakwood Cemetery, Mt. Morris.

Arrangements were completed by Finch Funeral Home, 405 E. Hitt St., Mt. Morris.

Memorials may be made to Pinecrest Manor Nursing Home and Disciples United Methodist Church.
