Marilyn J. Miller
Marilyn J. Miller, 75, Oregon, died Saturday, Aug. 24, 2013 peacefully at home surrounded by her family after fighting a courageous battle with her illness for two years.
She was born on July 14, 1938 in Oregon, the daughter of Gerald K. and Harriett F. (Rippberger) Garard.
She graduated from Oregon Community High School in 1956 and the Rockford School of Business in 1959.
She married Charles Miller on June 14, 1958 at the Oregon United Methodist Church. He predeceased her on Feb. 3, 2012.
She was employed at Smith and Morrow, PC, for 32 years as a legal secretary, retiring in 2005.
She was a member of the Oregon United Methodist Church for 50 years and P.E.O. Chapter IU of Oregon.
Some of her hobbies she enjoyed were decorating the bulletin boards at her church and the law office, yard work, and taking care of her seven sheltie dogs during her lifetime.
She especially loved spending time with her children and grandchildren.
She is survived by her son, David (Elizabeth) Miller, Appleton, Wis.; daughters, Susan Rains (Neil Camling-fiance’) and Debra (Mark) Gale, Oregon; grandchildren, Daniel and Allison Gale, Kaitlyn Miller, and April and Ariel Rains; niece, Julie Conroy; and sister-in-law, Phyllis Garard Benson.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Charles; brother, Donald Garard; and grandson, Matthew D. Miller.
Funeral services will be Saturday, Aug. 31 at noon at the Oregon United Methodist Church with Pastor Barb Good officiating. Visitation will be held prior to the service from 10 a.m. until noon.
Burial will be in Riverview cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Oregon United Methodist Church and Serenity Hospice & Home, Oregon.
The family wishes to express their sincere gratitude to OSF Cancer Care, Serenity Hospice and special friends who helped out so much and for all their prayers.
God gives us memories so we may have reflections in December.
