Gertrude A. Bornemeier

Gertrude “Gertie” A. Bornemeier, 95, Forreston, died Wednesday, Aug. 14, 2013 at Presence St. Joseph Center, Freeport.

She was born in Ulpaward, Germany on Feb. 3, 1918, the daughter of Jan and Anna (Barfs) Ruter.

Gertrude married Henry Bornemeier on Dec. 9, 1939 in Clinton, Iowa. He died on Aug. 8, 1981.

She was a member of Faith Evangelical Lutheran Church, Forreston.

She enjoyed cooking, baking, following the Chicago Cubs, word searches, solitaire, and spending time with her family especially grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren.

Gertrude is survived by her seven daughters, Betty Hepler, Freeport, Sally Fager, Forreston, Joann (Lyle) Coffman, Kankakee, Beverly (Virgil) Hayunga, Freeport, Linda (Craig) Brinkman, Rockford, Doris Pittsley, Freeport, and Nylia (Darrel) Swalve, Forreston; 22 grandchildren; 47 great-grandchildren; nine great-great-grandchildren; and her special friend, Linda Colcord.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, brothers, sisters, one grandson, one great-granddaughter, and three sons-in-law.

Funeral services were held Aug. 19 at Faith Evangelical Lutheran Church in Forreston with Pastor Scott Ralston officiating. Burial was at White Oak Cemetery.

Arrangements were completed by Burke-Tubbs Funeral Home, Forreston.

In lieu of flowers a memorial has been established.
