This photo is from Sauerkraut Days in 1913, the first year the event was held. A car and bike show will be held this Saturday in Forreston to commemorate the event.

The fifth annual Forreston Sauerkraut Day Car & Bike Show will be on Saturday, Aug. 3 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Forreston Village Park and grade school.

The show is put on by the American Legion Riders Post 308.

A $10 entry fee will be charged to enter a vehicle or motorcycle into the show, and registration is from 8 a.m. to noon. The event is free for spectators.

Trophies will be awarded at 3 p.m. Dash plaques will be awarded to the first 100 entries, and door prizes, a 50-50 raffle, and a gun raffle are also planned.

Music will be provided by 3D Sound. Brats, hot dogs, and sauerkraut will be served in the park shelter for lunch.

The show is named in commemoration of Forreston's longtime tradition of holding Sauerkraut Day, a celebration which drew thousands of visitors to town for the meal, parade, and other festivities. Sauerkraut Day got its start in 1913 when community leaders decided to hold a September festival.
