More than 130 youngsters take part in fishing derby at conservation club

More than 130 youngsters participated June 23 in the Northern Illinois Bass Masters 27th Annual Kids Fishing Derby held at the Rochelle Wildlife Conservation Club, Chana.

More than 50 large mouth bass and more than 300 bluegills were caught in the event, which was hosted bythe Northern Illinois Bass Master Tournament Bass Fishing Club, Rockford.

Winners in the various age groups were:

Ages 11-15—First Place Zack Hawkins, Second Place Zack Long, Third Place Jordon Martin;

Ages 7-10—First Place Brady Kerwin, Second Place Wyatt Wagoner, Third Place Mathew Chamness;

Ages 1-6—First Place Owen Wynn, Second Place Anna Blanton, Third Place Matt Lynn.

The Big Bass winner was Jacob Champion with  a 1 pound, 1.6 ounce large mouth bass.

First place in each age group received a bicycle; second, a rod and reel; and third, fishing tackle.

Every child in attendance received a gift, which included two dozen rod and reel combos, 8 bicycles, fishing lures, tackle packs, Plano tackle boxes, and girls and boys toys of all kinds.

Hundreds of hamburgers, hotdogs, drinks, and all the trimmings were served up by the members of the Wildlife Conservation Club to all the kids, parents, grandparents, and everyone in attendance.
