Absher to play basketball for Augustana

Devyn Absher, a 2013 graduate of Oregon High School, will be attending Augustana this fall and plans on being a member of Coach Mark Beinborn’s Viking basketball program.

The 5’ 6” Absher won three varsity letters in basketball, 2 at OHS and 1 at Ashton-Franklin Center.

As a senior at Oregon, she averaged 7.0 points and 4.1 rebounds and shot 43 percent from the field for

Coach Kristy Eckardt’s Lady Hawks. She earned all-area honorable mention from Sauk Valley Media.

In volleyball, Absher earned three varsity letters, multiple team MVP awards and first team All-Big Northern Conference West honors as a senior. Her coach at Oregon was Christy Sitze.

In track & field, coached by Lynn Ahlgrim, Oregon, Absher earned 2 varsity letters after earning 2 at AFC.

She was also the Lady Hawks’ Most Outstanding performer for two years and served as a team captain as a senior.

Absher joins a Viking program that has compiled a 512-452 record in 39 seasons of intercollegiate competition.

Augustana has won five CCIW championships and made seven NCAA Division III and four AIAW tournament appearances.

The 2013-14 season will be Beinborn’s second as the Vikings’ head coach.
