Mary Jane E. Roskam

Mary Jane E. Roskam, 91, formerly of Baileyville, a much loved mother, grandmother, and Oma, died Wednesday June 19, 2013 at Fairhaven Retirement Center, Rockford.

Mary Jane was born on Oct. 23, 1921 in Goshen, Ind., the daughter of Paul and Erma (Nickler) Middleton.

She married Merrill W. Roskam  on Sept. 20, 1941 in St. Joseph, Mo.

He died on Aug. 14, 1999. Mary Jane worked at the post office in Baileyville and at Stover Steel, Freeport.

She was a member of Baileyville Baptist Church where she taught Sunday School and was active in King’s Daughter. Mary Jane was also a 4-H leader.

She enjoyed sewing, spending time with her family, and always living life to the fullest.

She is survived by her son, Mervin (Sue) Roskam, Hoover, Ala.; daughters, Julia (Gary) Johnson, Pecatonica, and Deborah (Randy) Trei, Rockford; eight grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, sister, and one great-grandson, Ben Johnson.

Funeral services were held on June 24 at Burke Tubbs Funeral Home, Freeport, with Pastor Verlyn Swanson and Matthew Roskam officiating.

Burial was at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens.

In lieu of flowers a memorial has been established.
