Dorothy J. Scheffler

Dorothy J. Scheffler, 83, Oregon, died Saturday, May 11, 2013 at Pinecrest Manor, Mt. Morris.   She was born Apr. 1, 1930 in Mt. Morris the daughter to Irvin and Gladys (Shrader) Zumdahl.  

She graduated from Mt. Morris High School in 1948.  

Dorothy married Fred A. Scheffler on Aug. 22, 1948 in Mt. Morris.  He preceded her in death on Oct. 22, 1996.  

She had worked for many years as a store clerk in Mt. Morris and also for Merlin’s Flowers and farmed alongside her husband in rural Oregon.

Dorothy was an involved member of the Red Hat Society and The Caring and Sharing Group of Oregon.   She was also a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church in Mt. Morris.

She enjoyed crafting, making jewelry, Longaberger trips, and trips to Shipshewana, Ind.   Dorothy was predeceased by her parents, husband Fred, and sister Carol Carr.

She is survived by her two daughters, Cheryl (David) Point, Oregon, and Nancy (Gaylord) Winterberg, Winnebago, two sisters, Lois Scheffler, Mt. Morris, and Joyce (Lorin) Gatz, Polo; seven grandchildren, Danette (Kirk) Kettwich, Oregon, Amy (Todd) Hicks, Amboy, Ryan (Jodi) Point, Oregon, Ranae (Tom) Stone Jr., Oregon, Jennifer (Kevin) Daly, Gurnee, Matthew Fritz, Chana, and Alisa (Ted) Pollock, Davis Junction; 19 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.  

Funeral services were May 14 at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Mt. Morris with the Rev. Marilyn Hanson, pastor of the church, officiating.  

Burial was at Riverview Cemetery, Oregon.  

Arrangements were completed by Farrell-Holland-Gale Funeral Home, Oregon.

A memorial fund has been established in her name.
