The Phantom Regiment, Rockford, will again perform at the Leaf River Summer Daze Parade on Sunday, June 2 at 2 p.m.
A youth organization, the Phantom Regiment is dedicated to the development of self-esteem and self-reliance.
It encourages team work, sportsmanship, civic pride and contributions of one's personal best to a group effort. These lessons are learned through a musical and marching activity in which there is a blending of the arts and athletics.
The Phantom Regiment has received many honors throughout its history, including serving as 1996 Drum Corps International World Champion.
The regiment is comprised of performers with previous experience as musicians, dancers and color guard members. The schedule is demanding and intense, including multiple winter and spring rehearsal camps followed by a 60-day national tour in the summer.
Jim Andersen’s Circus Wagon Train will also be one of highlights at the Leaf River Summer Daze Parade.
Andersen's Circus Wagon Train is a re-creation of the circus trains that carried the circus in its earlier days, when circuses tried to outdo each other with their brightly-colored and ornately carved wagons.
The wagons are approximately one-fourth the original size and are made as close to the originals as possible.
One of the wagons is the America Calliope wagon which plays recorded calliope music through a sound system.
