Deborah A. Ottwell

Deborah Ann “Debbie” Ottwell, 59, Beardstown, died Thursday, April 25, 2013 at St. John’s Hospital, Springfield.

She was born Aug. 30, 1953 in Mendota, the daughter of Virgil Lloyd and Ada Maxine John Maines.

She married Robert “Bob” Ottwell on Sept. 7, 1974 at the United Methodist Church, Polo.

Surviving is her husband Robert “Bob” Ottwell, Beardstown; her mother, Ada Maines, Dixon; two sons, Christopher (companion Jennifer Hagerty), Bluff Springs and Kevin (Amanda) Ottwell, Virginia; one grandson, Ashton Ottwell; one brother, Steven Maines, Dixon; and a sister, Marsha (companion Stan Weber) Malburg, Polo.

She was preceded in death by her father.

Debbie graduated from Polo Community High School in 1971.

She received her LPN license from Sauk Valley College in Dixon in 1972, her paramedic license through Passavant Hospital in 1989, and later received her registered nurse degree from John Wood Community College in 1997.

She previously worked for the Beardstown Fire and Ambulance Service where she was the second full-time female paramedic and one of the first female members of the fire department.

She later retired from McDounough District Hospital, Macomb, as the house supervisor.

She loved spending time with her family, reading, vacationing with her husband, and being near the river or an ocean.

Debbie spent a lifetime of caring for, helping, and loving people.

Cremation rites have been accorded.

The family will meet with friends on Friday, May 3 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Sager Funeral Home, Beardstown.

Memorials have been suggested to Beardstown Fire and Ambulance.
