Catherine E. Butler

Catherine Elizabeth Gecan Butler, 91, widow of Robert William Butler, died Monday, April 22, 2013.

Born in Oregon, she was the daughter of the late Frank and Antonia Dellach Gecan.
Butler was a member of Our Lady of the Rosary Catholic Church, Greenville, S.C., since 1955.

She began serving as a volunteer at St. Francis Hospital, Greenville, S.C., in 1968.

Over the next 45 years, she worked faithfully in several areas at St. Francis Downtown, the front desk, the chart room in Outpatient Surgery and Education, contributing more than 19,500 hours as a volunteer.

Surviving are three sons, Stephen (Sarah) Butler, Simpsonville, S.C., James (Ellen) Butler, Taylors, S.C., and Richard Butler, Greenville, S.C.; a brother, Stephen (Marilyn) Gecan, Oregon; four grandchildren, Anthony James Butler, Nicholas Michael Butler, Catherine Anne Butler, and Matthew Stephen Butler; six great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

Butler was predeceased by a brother, Edward G. Gecan.

Funeral Mass will be celebrated April 25 at Our Lady of the Rosary Catholic Church. Burial was at Greenville Memorial Gardens.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Our Lady of the Rosary Catholic Church, 3710 Augusta Rd., Greenville, SC 29605 or St. Francis Hospital, 1 St. Francis Dr., Greenville, SC 29601.

The family will be at their respective homes.
