Two Belgian horses were killed by lightning April 17.

"We lost 2 Belgians after a lightning strike," said Bryant Hagemann, Oak Hill Farms.

Hagemann said the 2 horses, an old mare and a 2-year-old colt were standing next to each other when the storm hit.

The animals were on his grandmother Bernice's farm on Kishwaukee Rd. in rural Stillman Valley.

Oak Hill Farms was established in 1967 and the goal was to be recognizable to others in the draft horse industry.

The Hagemann's have been training Belgian horses and have shown the animals in competitions.
