Betty Jo Cross

Betty Jo Cross, 86, Polo, died March 24, 2013, at CGH Hospital, Sterling.

She was a retired school teacher with the Polo School District for more than 20 years.

She was a member of the United Methodist Women group, the Prayer Shawl Ministry and prior choir member.

Betty Jo was an active member of  the Retired Teachers’ Association. 

She was an avid traveler, loved watching her family in their sports activities and a true friend to all. 

Betty was born, July 4,1926 in Albany,  the daughter of Bruce and Josephine (Parker) Slaymaker.

She married Gavin Cross on Aug. 24,1950 in Garden Plain. He preceded her in death in 1970.

Survivors include daughter, Jane (Jeff) Hunn, North Manchester, Ind.; daughter-in-law, Char Cross, Belvidere; granddaughters, Jessica Cross and Sara Cross, both of Belvidere.

She was preceded in death by son, James Cross and brother, Robert Slaymaker.

Visitation was scheduled for Wednesday, March 27 from 5 to 7 p.m. at Polo Family Funeral Home and on Thursday, March 28 from 9:3 to 10:30 a.m., just prior to the service.

Funeral services will be Thursday, March 28 at 10:30 a.m. at Faith United Methodist Church, Polo.

Burial will be at Fairmount Cemetery, Polo.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established in her name.
