Jake Kleveland is OHS Senior of Distinction

Jake Kleveland is Oregon High School’s February Senior of Distinction, nominated by teacher Danyel Larsen.

“I have known Jake for two years as a student in my classes at Oregon High School, most recently in Honors PreCalculus last year and as my Teacher’s Assistant this year for AP Calculus AB," Larsen said.

"He has shown a highly developed aptitude and understanding for mathematics in addition to the interest and enjoyment he finds in it.

"I have seen Jake grow in his understanding over the course of the past four years and I am proud to see the connections he is making daily with information he learned in past courses and how he has been able to help and guide his peers this year as a TA.

"He picks up new concepts effortlessly and applies them with ease.  When he does have questions, they are well thought out, challenging, and insightful.

"Jake has exceled above his peers by enrolling in the Kishwaukee Engineering-Math-Science Academy (EMSA) for his senior year.

"Through this program, he has been able to take the Calculus sequence and Physics courses that will apply to his major in college – he will earn 26 college credits before his senior year is over, not to mention the credits he earned through AP and Dual Credit courses at the high school.

"Jake is a leader among his peers.  His quiet confidence makes him one that his peers look to for answers to questions, advice, and they even look to him to see how he will react to different situations within the classroom.

"Outside the classroom, Jake has spent four years on the soccer team and track team, earning an unanimous nomination to the All-Conference Team in soccer and the IHSA Scholastic Achievement Award.

"Jake loves running so much that he participates in a student led winter running team.

"He has also been active in Student Council and the National Honors Society. Jake truly cares about the people around him and he finds the time outside of his academic work, athletics, and clubs to perform community service.

"Among the many hours that Jake has clocked for others, he has helped with the Oregon High School Blood Drives and our upcoming Relay for Life event. Additionally, he has Trick-or-Treated for canned goods and took part in a Crop Walk to End Hunger.

"Jake cares about those around him and those in need and he has learned how to make time management look easy with all of the other activities and obligations in his life.”
