Winnebago beats Monmouth-Roseville 74-53 to advance to state finals

Big Northern Conference champion Winnebago punched its ticket to the state finals of the Class 2A basketball tournament Wednesday night with a 74-53 win over Monmouth-Roseville at the DeKalb Super-sectional.

The Indians (32-0) outscored the Titans 48-31 in the second half to seal the win and advance to the Peoria Civic Center this Friday and Saturday.

Winnebago will play South Holland (Seton Academy) at 6:30 p.m. on March 8. Harrisburg will play St. Joseph Ogden at 8:15 p.m. in the other state semifinal.

Matt Renke led the Indians with 20 points and 7 rebounds. Ryan Swigart added 16 points and snared 9 rebounds while Jacoby Posley had 15 points and 4 steals for Winnebago.

Martel Hunter led Monmouth with 19 points.
