An elderly Stillman Valley couple were found dead in their home Monday morning in what appears to be a murder and suicide.

Jack E. Bond, 85, and his wife Dorothy F. Bond, 86, were pronounced dead inside the house at 4238 N. Armour Rd., approximately three and one-half miles southeast of Stillman Valley.

Ogle County Sheriff Michael Harn said Dorothy Bond died of a gunshot to the head, and Jack Bond died of a self-inflicted gunshot.

"Investigators believe this is an isolated incident and that there is no danger to the general public," Harn said in a press release.

Autopsies were performed Tuesday.

Sheriff's police and the Stillman Valley ambulance were called to the residence just before 11 a.m. Monday.

Harn said deputies found the couple dead when they arrived on the scene.

Ogle County Coroner Lou Finch and the Illinois State Police Crime Scene Unit assisted at the scene.

The investigation is continuing pending the results of lab tests.
