Esther M. Bemiss

Esther M. Bemiss, Batavia, N.Y., died peacefully on Tuesday, Feb. 5, 2013 in the home that she loved.

Esther was born on April 3, 1931, the daughter of Albert and Nellie (Howse) Crosby.

She was the first female letter carrier hired by the Batavia, N.Y. Post Office. She was rural carrier with 25 years of service before retiring.

Esther enjoyed reading and crocheting and was a wonderful cook.

Survivors include sons, Roy (Carol) Sieger, Nassau, N.Y., William C. (Maryann) Warner, East Nassau, N.Y., Kenneth (Gloria) Warner, Jonesborough, Tenn.; daughters, Beverly (William) Pettinger, Mt. Morris, Martha (David A. Thomas) Bemiss, Dale, N.Y., Audrey Farrington, Atlantic, Iowa; 15 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; former husband, George (Marie) Bemiss, Conway, S.C.; and favorite sister-in-law, Charlotte (Phil) Schwartz, Nassau, N.Y.

She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Sherman (Bing) Crosby; daughter, Anita; and son, Stephen P. Warner Sr.

Per Esther's wishes, no visitation or funeral was held. Cremation rites were accorded.

A private celebration of her life will be held by the family at a later date.
