Carla M. Brewer

Carla May Brewer, 79, Byron, died on Monday, Feb. 11, 2013 at 2:09 a.m. at Neighbor’s Nursing Home.  

She was born on Feb. 4, 1934 in Leavenworth, Kans., daughter of Dr. Harry A. and Mildred (Pohley) Gerber.

Carla married Edgar LeRoy Vinson, Jr. on June 19, 1954, together they had two children, Lee and Carl.  

He preceded her in death in 1964.  

Carla married Farrell Brewer on Dec. 30, 1965.  

She loved animals, was an avid reader and a member of the Oregon Woman's Club. 

She received her associate degree from Rock Valley College, was formerly employed at H&R Block as an accountant, and owned a Sears Catalog Store with her husband, Farrell.  

She is survived by her husband of 47 years; her children, Edgar "Lee" LeRoy (Mayleen) Vinson III, Haysville, Kans., Carl Robert (Elizabeth) Vinson, Belvidere, Terry Ray (Natalie) Brewer, Oak Park, Dr. Johnna May

(Martin) Gueorguieva, Elmwood Park; grandchildren, Micaela Vinson, Brendan (Megan) Vinson, Aidan Finn Brewer, Corrin Patrick Brewer; great-grandchild, Connor Lee Vinson; siblings, Melissa (Mark) Allen of Baltimore, Md., Paula

Sanchez, Kansas City, Kans., Johanna Gray, Oklahoma City, Okla.; three nieces; and two nephews. 

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, Feb. 16 at 10 a.m. at Grace Funeral & Cremation Services, 1340 South Alpine Rd., Rockford, with Pastor Scott Schmidt officiating.  

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Carla’s name to the Granny Rose Animal Shelter, 613 River Lane, Dixon.
