A Loves Park man has been charged with two residential burglaries in rural Ogle County.

Ogle County Sheriff's Police arrested Sheldon J. Wheaton, 32, on Jan. 18.

He is accused of burglarizing a rural Leaf River home on Dec. 6 and a rural Lindenwood home on Dec. 16.

Ogle County Sheriff Michael Harn credited citizens with providing information that led to the arrest.

"The two investigations were assisted by several citizens providing information on a suspicious vehicle and a partial license plate number. As a result the same offender was identified in both incidents," he said in a statement released Jan. 25.

During the investigation, several of the items taken in both burglaries were recovered at a residence in Rockford, Harn said. A television stolen in DeKalb County was also recovered.

"Wheaton would travel door-to-door in rural areas selling frozen meat looking for unoccupied residences," Harn said in the press release.

Wheaton is being held in the Ogle County Jail in lieu of $50,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in court Feb. 13.
