John V. Ehmen, 87, Oregon, died Wednesday, Jan. 9, 2013 at the Serenity Hospice and Home, Oregon.
He was born Jan. 11, 1925 in rural Stillman Valley the son of Amos F. and Grace (Schier) Ehmen.
He attended Crowell School and Stillman Valley High School.
John married Helen M. Sherfield on June 15, 1949 in Oregon.
He served his country in the 284th Field Artillery Battalion during World War II in the European Theater of Operations for two and one-half years.
John was a mechanic and service station owner in Byron for 14 years.
With his wife Helen, he farmed in rural Oregon for many years.
He worked in the electrical field for 20 years out of IBEW Local 196 and Local 364, retiring in 1987.
He was a member of Ebenezer Reformed Church in Oregon.
He is survived by his wife, Helen, Oregon; son, John (Della) Ehmen Jr., Byron; daughter, Linda Summers (Brian Nelson), Rochelle; brother, William Ehmen, Sterling; three grandchildren, Todd Aschenbrenner, Byron, Rhonda (Tim) King, Byron, and Renee (Brian) Foss, Oregon; four great-grandchildren, Hannah, Brandt, Jenna, and Kyle; and many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased in death by his parents; sisters, Jennie Wilke and Hattie Johnson; brother, Henry Ehmen; an infant sister; and an infant brother.
A special thank you to Serenity Hospice and Home for all the loving care John received during his time there.
Funeral service was held Jan. 12, 2013 at the Ebenezer Reformed Church near Oregon with the Rev. Brion Brooks, pastor of the church, officiating.
Burial was at Ebenezer Cemetery.
Arrangements were completed by Farrell-Holland-Gale Funeral Home, Oregon.
A memorial fund has been established for the Ebenezer Reformed Church.
