Lilah M. Gorzny

Lilah M. Gorzny, 94, Polo, died Sunday, Jan. 6, 2013 at Sterling Pavilion.

She was born May 17, 1918 in Lyndon, the daughter of Clarence and Edna (Johnson) Sibley.

Lilah graduated from Prophetstown High School in 1935.

She married John H. Gorzny May 17, 1939 in Clinton, Iowa.  He preceded her in death on Aug. 31, 2005.

She had farmed with her husband for many years, and was famous for her angel food cakes and pickles.

Lilah enjoyed bowling and playing pinochle.

She was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Polo, the St. Mary Altar and Rosary Society, and the Polo Senior Center.

She is survived by children, Janice Kuepker, Sterling, John (Dottie) Gorzny, Edwardsville, Jerry (Nancy) Gorzny, Hamel,  Jolene (Donald) Kelly, Tampico, Joel (Debra) Gorzny, Polo, and James (Sarah) Gorzny, Oregon; 13 grandchildren,  Rodney (Sarah) Kuepker, Kyle (Jill) Kuepker, Jodi (Dustin) Thompson, Aubrey (John) Sanchez, Jamie (Angie) Gorzny, Jonathon (Erin) Gorzny, Michael (Jennifer) Kelly, Matthew (Corrin) Kelly, Jacqueline Gorzny, Joshua Gorzny, Jordan (Beth Bohms) Gorzny, Olivia Gorzny, Cade Gorzny;  three step-grandchildren Lainie (Perry) Zach, Pam (Reuben) Stoddard, and Mark Stoddard; 15 great-grandchildren;  seven step-great-grandchildren;  a sister, Emma Vervaecke, Morrison;  and a sister-in-law, Frances Scudder, Sterling.

She was also preceded in death by a daughter, Carol Jean Gorzny; sisters, Margaret Elgin and Lillian Plumley; and a brother, Clarence Sibley Jr.

Mass of Christian burial will be on Thursday, Jan. 10 at 10 a.m. at St. Mary Catholic Church, Polo, with the Rev. Louis Tosto officiating.

Burial will follow at St. Mary Cemetery, Polo.

Visitation was scheduled for Wednesday, Jan. 9 from 5 to 8 p.m. at Jones Funeral Home, Dixon, with the rosary recited at 7:30 p.m. and also on Thursday from 9 to 10 a.m. at the church.

Arrangements were completed by Jones Funeral Home, Dixon.

A memorial has been established to the St. Mary Altar and Rosary Society.
