James Franklin Point Sr., 59, Columbia, S.C., died Monday, Dec. 24, 2012 at Palmetto Health, Richland, S.C.
He was born on Nov.11, 1953, in Lima, Ohio, the son of Janice Loraine Arnold Point and the late John H. Point.
He was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran and a former member of Lewis United Methodist Church.
Point enjoyed sports and woodworking. He was a 1972 graduate of Oregon High School.
He is survived, in addition to his mother, by a son, James Franklin “Jimmy” Point Jr., Pomaria, S.C.; daughters, Allie Compton, Prosperity, S.C., and Aminee Marissa Point, Newberry, S.C.; sisters, Pam Aschbrenner, Vicki Trotter, and Sue Day; a brother, Dave Point; grandchildren, Landon and Kiley Compton.
He was predeceased by a granddaughter, Riley Compton.
Memorial services will be held on Saturday, Jan. 5 at 2 p.m. at Lewis Memorial United Methodist Church. Memorials may be made to Palmetto Health Hospice, 1400 Pickens Street, Suite 100, Columbia, SC 29201.
