The Forreston Police Department has approximately 25 bicycles ready for qualified children for its annual Christmas giveaway.

Police Chief Mike Boomgarden said the bikes will be available to residents of the Forrestville Valley School District through Sunday, Dec. 16.

The bikes, of all colors and sizes, have been donated or abandoned throughout the year, he said.

"A lot of people donate bikes that their kids have outgrown," he said. Some of the ones donated are brand new.

The rest are bikes found abandoned throughout the community during the year.

Boomgarden said those that need it are refurbished with new parts. Freeport Bicycle Company helps out with the needed parts, he said.

For more information about how to get a bike or to donate a bike call Boomgarden at 815-616-1087.

Bikes not claimed will be donated to the Salvation Army.
