Published: Thursday, Nov. 15, 2012 2:58 p.m. CDT

Dear Editor,

Cub Scout Pack 337 would like to thank the Polo Community for supporting our scouts during their popcorn fundraiser.

A special thanks to those that supported more than one scout!

Funds raised allow the pack to purchase badges, belt loops and awards for the scouts upon completed requirements.

Thanks Polo.

Veteran’s Day event held at the RRC

Dear Editor,

On Thursday, Nov. 8 at 10 a.m. at the Rock River Center, Oregon, a large group gathered at a special program to honor all our veterans. A Quilt of Valor, hand stitched, and a hand carved walking stick, were raffled off, very lovely articles.

VFW Post 3789 posted the colors and everyone joined in the Pledge of Allegiance. I personally thank these four or five gents who make every ceremony so special.

A delightful group of 8, Keebler’s Kids, played a gratifying group of songs, Maestro Keebler explained: Our National Anthem; “Battle Hymn of the Republic” from Civil War, “When Johnny Comes Marching Home” from World War I; “Yankee Doodle” from the Revolutionary War, “This Land is Your Land” by W. Guthrie from Vietnam War, “America” and “America the Beautiful”.

The Hon. Doug Weam spoke al too briefly honoring veterans of all wars, past and present in a poignant message to all.

The 16 members of the Oregon High School Band, under Maestro Andy Eckhart played exceedingly well “God Bless America”, “America the Beautiful”, and “Battle Hymn of the Republic”.

Refreshments were served and thank you to all who made this important gathering possible and God

Bless you all and a special thank you to all the veterans.
