Rev. Leonard L. Huff

Rev. Leonard Leslie Huff, 83, Mt. Morris, died on Tuesday, Nov. 6, 2012 at his home, ending a full life filled with love for the Lord, family and friends.

He was born in Morris, Manitoba, Canada, on Dec. 18,1928, the oldest son of Frederick and Lillian (Gretzinger) Huff.

He graduated from Daniel McIntyre High School and served with the Sea Cadet Band and the Royal Winnipeg Rifles, Winnipeg, Manitoba.

Len graduated from Hillcrest Christian College, Medicine Hat, Alberta, and he received his bachelor of arts degree from North Central College, Naperville, and a bachelor of divinity from Evangelical Theological Seminary, Naperville.

As a United Methodist minister, he served churches in Nipawin, Saskachewan, Neudorf, Alberta, Medicine Hat, Alberta, and in Hampshire, Polo, and Mt. Carroll, Ill.

He also served as the administrator of the Polo Continental Manor for 14 years.

Len enjoyed people and life. He was a gentle, caring, loving soul with a keen sense of humor and ability to put all at ease.

He took much joy in raising and training miniature horses, singing in the Mt. Carroll Choir, playing trumpet in the Kishwaukee Concert Band, the Rockford Christian Fellowship Band, and the Mt. Morris Kable Band.

Service to his community played a large part in his life.

He participated in many Ogle and Carroll County organizations including the Ogle County Mental Health Board, Mt. Carroll School Board, and was actively involved with Rotary, Kiwanis, and the Mt. Morris Senior Center.

He was a CASA volunteer in both Carroll and Ogle Counties, and Lot 12 tutor for children.

He also served as a director of the American Miniature Horse Association.

He is survived by his wife, Miriam,  Mt. Morris; son, Marlow, Wendell, N.C.; daughter-in-law, Sally Huff, Raleigh, N.C.; daughter, Wendy (Chuck Westcott), Mt. Morris; brother, Gerald (Gwen), Camrose, Alberta; grandchildren, Joshua Flaharty, Shonnah Poe, Timothy Flaharty, Mt. Morris, Kaitlyn Huff, Wilmington, N.C., Andy Huff, Raleigh, N.C., and great-grandchildren Evan and Colton Flaharty, Jaidra and Dreyah Poe.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Lillian Huff; brother, Donald; and infant son, Joel.

A memorial Celebration of Life was held Nov. 10 at Disciples United Methodist Church, Mt. Morris, with Pastor Doc Newcomb officiating.  

A family committal service will be conducted by Rev. Leonard Sukut in Fairmount Cemetery, Polo.

Arrangements were completed by Finch Funeral Home, Mt. Morris.

The family requests no flowers.  Memorials can be made to Disciples United Methodist Church, Mt. Morris.
