Ogle generators headed east to help with Sandy

Six generators from Ogle County have been shipped to victims of Hurricane Sandy, which ravaged the East Coast last month.
Illinois Emergency Management Agency (IEMA) officials arrived at the Ogle County Sheriff's Office early Nov. 9 to pick up six generators, which were soon headed for areas where electrical power has yet to be restored.
"We're donating the generators at the request of IEMA," said Sheriff Michael Harn.
Hurricane Sandy made landfall along the eastern seaboard in late October. Especially hard hit were areas of New York and New Jersey.
Approximately a week later a winter storm Athena left as much as a foot of snow on some of the areas still trying to recover from the hurricane.
The generators, which were obtained from the Illinois Law Enforcement Alarm System (ILEAS), were intended for use throughout Ogle County in case a natural or manmade disaster interrupted electrical service to the region, Harn said.
He said the donation will not leave Ogle County without emergency generators should a disaster occur.
"More are available if needed, " Harn said. "There's still other generators in the bank in Illinois."
